I wasn’t feeling well, but I needed something to fill my journal with so I took a quick trek to the Upper Belvedere to see the Klimt collection and the French Impressionists. The Belvedere collection is very solid, but they were forced to return the jewels of their collection- five Klimt paintings including the famous Bauer portrait to Maria Altman who resides in Los Angeles.
The current highlight of the Austrian National Gallery is Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss” which depicts a golden-laden couple making out in a rather insipid milieu. Although “The Kiss” is considered a masterpiece, it wasn’t one of my favorite paintings.
